The Yas Marina Circuit was inaugurated in 2009 and was the Formula One´s first "Day to Night" race where the start time at 17.00 was in daylight but still floodlit to allow a smooth transition into darkness. The plans to develop Yas Island began in 2006 with an ambitious project to develop a tourist destination in Abu Dhabi centred around the race circuit and the iconic marina. Miraculously the bulldozers began work in 2007 and the circuit was completed in 2009.
Given that te developers had a blank canvas to work with the Yas Marina Circuit has not stopped developing till this day with the amenities cementing it as a world class tourist destination boasting world class hotels, theme parks, a golf course, nightlife and even a concert arena.
The Yas Circuit F1 Race takes place over 55 laps with a distance of 5.554km / lap meaning a race length of 305.35km. The current lap record holder at time of writing is Lewis Hamilton (UK) with a sharp time of 1:39.283.
